New Tunes: First Aid Kit

This is not a new band and this is not a new album but I wanted to share them with you anyways. Friends, meet First Aid Kit. This duo is one of my all time favourite bands and it has been a few years now and I am still not sick of any of their songs. First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk rock dup consisting of  of sisters Johanna and Klara So derberg.  Rich in instrumentals, vocals and woodsy stunning lyrics - I think you will really like them. A little bit country, a little bit folksy -  make some tea, get comfortable and enjoy!

The Southwestern Belinda Clutch

I'm sad to say that one of my all time best selling clutch's is almost sold out. This fabric has been one of my faves but alas, it is now almost gone and it's time to move on. There are a few still left in the shop here.

Calling Spring

Well it's officially Spring now. Le sigh. This is my absolute, hands down favourite season of the year. I seem to just come alive; I start to naturally wake up with the sun and the sight of colour, blossoms, leaves on the trees just recharges me like no other season. The air smells good, I feel warm again - you know what I'm talking about. I like to think of winter as a personal germination period, I tend to read, write a lot, plan and work behind the scenes. And when Spring hits, its time for action and the sun just naturally recharges me. I love it.  Consequently, one of the things I also enjoy about Spring is lighter and more colourful clothing. Sandals, dresses, blouses. Not taking forever to put on layer upon layer to head outside. This season I am all about big chunky jewelry, tribal beaded sandals and some soft flowy boho dresses that I can dress up with cool accessories. You can find many more inspiring images via  my Pinterest boards which is where these ones have all been pulled from. Have a great weekend! XO

Promo: Etsy Lookbook

Etsy produced this beautiful lookbook for their Spring promotional efforts and I was lucky enough to be featured in it, along with a few of my compadres, Mary Burrows of MB Art Studios and Alexx Boisjoili of RCBoisjoli Ceramics.

Now if only the weather in Canada could channel the sunny optimism of this lookbook...

The Geometori Pouch

I just love neon, especially when it is mixed with more conventional colours like indigo. I was playing around with a few of the new Geometori pouch's in the shop and some new necklaces I bought. I think these combinations are so fun. The top bag is made from an old Japanese obi. Not sure on the exact period but I'm estimating that it might be 1940-1960 based on the floral/geometric motif. The second pouch is made from a gorgeous remnant of Hmong fabric. The Hmong are a tribe that live in the mountains of Thailand predominately. They have an AMAZING aesthetic. The base is indigo dyed with gorgeous neon embroidery.  Both pouch's are available in the shop here and here.

Style: Kantha

I recently bought a beautiful Kantha quilt for my bedroom and I have become kind of obsessed with them. They are made in India and Bangladesh from the remnants of sari silks. The pieces are patched together with the 'Kantha' stitch which results in beautiful textural and intricate lines. They're also very lightweight and reversible. The one I bought is predominantly olive green with these little tiny hand stitched patches where holes might have been in the sari. This is what I love about the Kantha - there is almost inherent a story in the material, the patches from wear and use, the care in the stitch, the culture, tradition and communities they came from.

I bought mine on Ebay from a company called Federal Exports. They have an Etsy shop as well and I recommend checking them both out as each quilt is totally one of a kind. I love mine because it was made in Rajasthan, a place I spent quite a bit of time in when I was traveling through India. Here are a few more cool places to check them out:

Fun with Tableaus

I recently bought a white fur vintage vest and immediately my mind went to how amazing it would look paired with the Belinda Clutch in gold and pastel suede. I love mixing textures like metallics, suede, metal and fur. But also the palette is so pretty and would make a great pairing for a wedding this Spring or Summer. Consequently, the clutch is available in the shop in both aqua blue and mauve suede with gold. We also have a few colours not shown in the shop - like cream and pale pink. We do a lot of weddings so if you are thinking about buying a few for your wedding party, please get in touch! We do offer discounts on bulk orders.

New Tunes - Broken Bells

You have probably already heard of these guys but in any case, here you go. I have been listening to both their albums in the studio all weekend. So far, these songs are my favourites but I can tell I am going to be listening to both their albums a lot in the weeks to come. A nice sound track as the snow and ice starts to thaw.
