Happy Spring!

On Sunday I had a little photo shoot with my friends Leann and Alicia to photograph my new Spring wares. It went well, I thought. I am still in awe and with so much gratitude that these girls are willing to take a whole Sunday to help me with my work. I owe them so much. I went into the shoot pretty casually, expecting to just take some basic product shots for my Etsy shop but what came out of it was sort of a surprise and exceeded my expectations in so many ways. I knew I wanted a softer and more natural palette for this season with lot's of pastels and natural fibres, but I didn't have an exact vision for how the end result would look. Somehow though, when I started uploading the photos to the shop, I realized how seamlessly they all flowed together and how the colours just sang out Springtime. It really was one of those happy creative process surprises and I am truly delighted. I love Spring so much, it feels very celebratory and sensual, bursting with possibility and freshness.

The above shot is a pretty collection of some of my scraps, compiled over the past week. I normally promptly throw these away but this time I felt compelled to let them pile up. Last week was so busy with production and prepping for the shoot. This week I am enjoying leisurely tea breaks and the process of slowly uploading the new shots to Etsy and promoting online. The shot below is a little glimpse behind the scenes, Leann photographing and Alicia rocking those 4 inch heels. Yikes!

xoxo
Until tomorrow Lovelies!

Etsy Finds

I am loving the work of Leah Duncan right now. She is a self taught illustrator, printmaker and designer and makes the most lovely patterns and prints. I am basically a sucker for anything with cool patterns and whimsical depictions of animals so as you can imagine, this is right up my alley. Not to mention the lovely textile work she does on tea towels, scarves and pillows. I also love the interesting colour combinations she uses and the patterning which to me, has a sort of Native American and southwest feel to it.  Seeing many colourful animals prints and tea towels in my future…

The Collection of Things

I am always drawn to photos that show grouping of objects. I think it is not always necessarily about the groupings per se but the colours and types of objects in the grouping. I love vibrant colour and unconventional colour groupings.

But I also love random objects from nature; shells, stones, pieces of wood. This is a big part of who I am. Almost my whole life now I have been spending countless hours in thrift stores, searching for beauty. I am always collecting little things I find in forests like twigs, leaves, rocks.

Even Grace Design is about this search, using found textiles collected from my travels and searches around the world. I think these found things tell a story. Each object has a narrative inherent in it. It intrigues me to think of the women who wore the kimono's and sari's I collected before they were mine. Their stories. Then there is the story of my search. My story, a continuation of this. The story of things.

Here are some photos of some of my favourite things.  First, ginettesqulette, a collection of painted sticks.  Stones, by Knittalette11.  GIAC 1061 shows a collection of feathers. Eggs, by Thalo-Porter.  Flickr is an incredible resource, I gather so much inspiration from it. Here is a link to more of my Flickr favourites.
